Anesthesia History Association Sponsors Resident Essay Contest

The Anesthesia History Association (AHA) sponsors an annual contest to promote interest in anesthesiology history among resident physicians. To enter the contest, residents must write a 1,000- to 3,000-word essay on a topic about the history of anesthesiology, pain medicine or critical care while the author is a resident or fellow or within one year of completion of residency or fellowship. International submissions are encouraged. All essays must be written in English.

The first-place winner of this contest will receive a check for $500. Prizes for second and third places are $200 and $100. The winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the AHA’s annual dinner meeting. That meeting will take place on October 24, 2004, during the ASA Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada. Authors of all entries will be encouraged to submit their essays for possible publication in the AHA’s quarterly journal Bulletin of Anesthesia History.

The essays must be submitted on or before August 23, 2004. Three copies can be mailed or one electronic copy sent to:
