What was the first official journal of the Society, and when was it made the official journal?
In 1914, when the Society was known as the New York Society of Anesthetists, Francis H. McMechan, M.D., persuaded the editor of the
American Journal of Surgery
to publish a quarterly supplement on anesthesia and analgesia in that journal. The next year, James T. Gwathmey, M.D. (1912 President) adopted the
American Journal of Surgery Quarterly Supplement of Anesthesia & Analgesia (American Journal of Anesthesia and Analgesia)
as the “official organ” of the Society.
