On-Line Application for ASA Active Membership

As part of ASA’s continuing effort to provide all applications for membership in electronic format, the ASA Active Membership Application can now be completed and submitted on-line. Potential members now have a quick and easy way to apply for membership. The application process is outlined below.

  • Complete and submit the Active Membership Application
  • Appropriate state component (and sponsors if applicable) will be notified via e-mail of your pending application
  • State Component approves your application
  • ASA sends you notification of acceptance

MEMBER SERVICES

ABA-ASA In-Training Examination
Jointly sponsored by the American Board of Anesthesiology and the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the In-Training Examination is available to physician-trainees in approved anesthesiology residency programs. It also serves as the entry examination to the certification system of the American Board of Anesthesiology.

ASA Scientific Meetings
The major portion of the ASA Annual Meeting is devoted to exhibits and scientific meetings. These include the annual Refresher Course Lectures and scientific papers by eminent anesthesiologists and guest lecturers. ASA Workshops and Seminars and are also scheduled in various locations.

Information and Counsel
The Executive Office acts as a clearing-house for members who want answers to specific questions and advice on professional matters. Approximately 70 committees are readily available to supply needed information and advice.

Liaison with Medical and Nonmedical Organizations
This is maintained, through the Society's committees, with other specialty organizations, the American Medical Association and other organizations.

National Library and Museum
The Wood Library-Museum of Anesthesiology, located in the Executive Office in Park Ridge, Illinois, serves not only the medical profession but historians and interested members of the lay public. The principal library collection includes approximately 9,000 books on anesthesiology and biomedical sciences relating to the specialty. In addition, the library maintains extensive files of biographical material and videotapes on prominent anesthesiologists, historical information and photographs. The Wood Library-Museum also administers the annual Paul M. Wood Memorial Fellowship which promotes research in the history of anesthesiology. Fellows of this program conduct historical research by utilizing the library-museum collection. It contains one of the finest rare book collections on the specialty in the world. Among the many services offered to members are:

1.Lending of books (except rare items).
2.General reference services.
3.Photocopying service on reference material at the library available at nominal
cost.
4.Publishing of classical works pertaining to the history of anesthesia.

To promote education and advance patient care, the Wood Library-Museum of Anesthesiology is actively engaged in preparing and making available educational aids specifically for anesthesia.
